"The house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace." ~Gaston Bachelard (French Philosopher)
Buying a home should be fun and exciting. Who doesn't like to visit open houses, see what's available, and dream about what you could do with this house to make it your own? Late night searches on Zillow, Trulia, Redfin and other sites can become addictive. Seeing which homes are near your favorite coffee shop or park you like to stroll through. Buying a home is also likely to be the biggest investment and the most emotional purchase of your life.
How do you alleviate that other side of this process - the emotional side and the stress that comes with buying a home? That's where our Home Loan Consultants at WSECU come in to play. Our seasoned HLCs can help to walk you through the process, assess your financial picture and help you determine how much house you want to buy. Peace of mind.
After visiting with an HLC and have been prequalified, that's a great time to contact a local real estate professional to assist with finding the perfect home for you and your family. You might even have a friend or family member who is a realtor. That's great. It helps to be clear about what your needs are, but of course throw some wish list items out there as well. The goal is to find the right home for you while focusing as much as possible. You don't to look at three-bedroom ranchers in the suburbs when what you really want is a two-bedroom + home office townhouse in the heart of the city.
When you find a house that you feel "is the one", your realtor will help you write your offer and present to the seller. Once the offer is accepted, that's when your HLC springs back into action to begin the progression of getting your loan approved. The loan process will typically take anywhere from 30-45 days, and will require documentation from you throughout this timeframe. We will guide you through the process. Then once your loan is approved, you will sign the final loan documents and get your keys.
Congratulations...you are a home owner! Now, call your friends, pick your paint color, and invite them for a moving-painting-pizza party. It's all yours!
