One of the many things I love about WSECU is our passion to make a difference in our communities. Once again we're supporting #GivingTuesday, this time around we're encouraging you to join in.
#GivingTuesday is an international movement created as a day of giving. It refers to the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday and this year happens to be Tuesday, November 29.
The movement is growing. In 2013 $19 million dollars was donated, in 2014 $45.68 million was donated, and in 2015 $117 million was donated*. While the total donations are growing, the average gift size has shrunk. What that means is that it doesn't take a lot to make an impact when we all join together.
Are you willing to join the movement? There are lots of ways to participate in #GivingTuesday. Here's a list of possibilities, but let your passion be your guide and make sure it's meaningful to you.
- Volunteer your time.
- Donate to your favorite organization.
- Buy items like gloves, hats, scarves, food, toys, etc. and then donate them.
- Make items and then donate them.
- Buy or prepare a meal for someone in need.
- Give money to someone in need.
- Help someone in need.
- Inspire others to get involved.
#GivingTuesday has a huge social media presence. Use your social media networks to spread the word about this growing movement and share what you're doing to make an impact on your community!
Use the #GivingTuesday hashtag and tell your story.
