WSECU Donates to Members' Choice: Medical Lake Food Bank
October 2, 2012 (Olympia, WA) - Employees from Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) visited the Medical Lake Food bank recently to present a $1,750 donation check to director Peg James. The food bank was selected by area WSECU members as their choice to receive a targeted contribution. The charitable donation was linked to a new accounts promotion the credit union recently held.
Medical Lake Branch Manager Naomi Kuhl and Member Consultant Edgar Arroyo were on hand to present the check to the organization on September 20, 2012.
"The food bank just moved to a new location and I know that dipped into their budget," said Arroyo. "Being there to present the check was an awesome opportunity."
WSECU recently opened up its field of membership in the Medical Lake/Cheney area to serve any individual that lives or works locally. That has led to a flurry of new accounts at the credit union over the summer as word spread that WSECU now serves more than its historical public employee membership base.
"The feedback and new account activity has been tremendous since we opened up who can become a WSECU member in this region," said Kuhl. "While this area continues to have strong ties with public service, there are many residents who weren't previously eligible and now are. We are so excited to be serving the whole community."
As part of the promotion, WSECU pledged to make a $25 charitable contribution for each new account opened between June 18 and Aug. 31. Then, the credit union offered members the chance to vote on which organization became the became the recipient charity. Medical Lake Food Bank received the most member votes.
"WSECU has a long tradition of support for the food bank," added Kuhl. "We always collect non-perishable donations during our annual shred day in July. I'm not surprised that our members selected Medical Lake Food Bank as their charity of choice for this promotion. They do such great work for families in need."
