Warning About Mortgage Modification Companies
It has recently come to our attention that some of our members have been subjected to fraud by doing business with mortgage modification companies that offer services to prevent foreclosures. If you have foreclosure issues, we recommend that you not do business with these companies — learn more about them here. There are other legitimate resources available, including your credit union. As your trusted adviser, WSECU is here to help and we can work with you to find a solution.

Additional Contacts and Options
If you find yourself unable to afford your mortgage payments and want to avoid foreclosure, there are many options that may be available to you. You may contact the Department of Financial Institutions, the office of Housing and Urban Development, the Washington State Bar Association or the statewide civil legal aid hotline for possible assistance or referrals.

Washington's Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) will help you find a certified housing counseling agency. You can reach them by calling 877.894.4663. DFI can also be reached at 877.746.4334.

The office of Housing and Urban Development will also help you find a certified housing counseling agency. That office can be reached at 800.569.4287.
