WSECU Announces 2021 Scholarship Recipients

Sept. 7, 2021 (Olympia, Wash.) – WSECU awarded $100,000 in college scholarships to 38 credit union members pursuing higher education.

WSECU has been committed to helping members reach their educational goals by awarding college scholarships for more than three decades. Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of fellow credit union members and employees. The selection process is based on an evaluation of several criteria including academic record, financial need, community involvement and a written essay.

“This is the second year with our increased scholarship giving to support our members working to accomplish their educational goals,” said Ann Flannigan, Vice President of Public Relations. “We are consistently impressed by students who persist in their pursuit of a higher education despite ongoing challenges at a global scale. We’re so proud of these members for continuing to go after their dreams.”

A total of 25 students who will attend a four-year or post-graduate institution this fall received a $3,000 scholarship. This year’s recipients are:

  • Elizabeth Barbuto, Olympia (George Fox University)
  • Fabian Garcia, Mabton (University of Washington)
  • Felix Giglio, Albuquerque (University of New Mexico-Main Campus)
  • Hannah Lea, Mount Vernon (University of Washington-Seattle Campus)
  • Isabel Emery, Seattle (Loyola University New Orleans)
  • Janell Shah, Zillah (Central Washington University)
  • Jess Jefferson Juanich, Seattle (University of Washington-Seattle Campus)
  • Jillian Headley, Mead (Eastern Washington University)
  • Jonathan Schade, Tumwater (University of Washington-Seattle Campus)
  • Jose Riera, Pullman (Washington State University)
  • Joy Matsuoka, Olympia (Emory University)
  • Kaden Anderson, Cathlamet (University of Washington-Seattle Campus)
  • Kailyn Beierle, Spokane (Washington State University)
  • Kian Ankerson, Colton (Washington State University)

The credit union also granted 13 scholarships to students in two-year community colleges or vocational programs. The $2,000 scholarship recipients for the 2021-2022 academic year are:
