Frequently Asked Questions

Identity theft is a type of fraud. It’s when someone poses as you, using your name, along with your personal or financial information, often for their own financial benefit, while you get the bill.

Identity theft protection is insurance that helps protect your finances by covering potential losses, usually up to a specified limit.

Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are the three credit bureaus that monitor and track credit. Periodically checking your credit reports with each agency may help you more quickly discover any fraudulent activity occurring in your name.

To report identity theft, contact the three credit bureaus, file an ID theft complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and contact the police.
