WSECU Announces 2024 Scholarship Recipients

Oct. 18, 2024 (Olympia, Wash.) – WSECU awarded over $100,000 in college scholarships to 40 credit union members pursuing higher education.

WSECU has been committed to helping members reach their educational goals by awarding college scholarships for more than three decades. Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of fellow members, community members and employees. The selection process is based on an evaluation of several criteria including academic record, community involvement and a written essay.

This year’s scholarship awards include two members receiving the Carol Sines Memorial Trust Scholarship, founded by State Highway Credit Union as a tribute to Carol Sines, treasurer and supervisory committee member of SHCU, for his longtime service to SHCU. Following a merger between the two institutions, the scholarship continues with support from WSECU.

“We’re thrilled to expand our scholarship program to include this tribute scholarship while recognizing the SHCU legacy,” said Will Rance, Vice President of Community Relations. “It’s one more way we can support our members on their higher education journey.”

A total of 25 students who will attend a four-year or post-graduate institution this fall received a $3,000 scholarship. The credit union also granted $2,000 scholarships to 15 students enrolling in two-year community colleges or vocational programs.
