As a credit union member, your deposits are federally insured through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Member savings, money market accounts, certificates and checking accounts holding up to $250,000 are insured, along with individual retirement accounts holding up to another $250,000. Additional insurance may also be provided for other types of accounts or account setups.

In order to qualify for NCUA insurance, credit unions must meet or exceed operational standards and regulatory requirements. Because of rigorous and mandatory compliance procedures, NCUA-insured credit union failures are rare, and no one has ever lost money from insured credit union accounts.
