Veronica Bronkema

Veronica Bronkema, Board Member

Regional Administrator
Department of Labor & Industries
Lakewood, WA

As a longtime public employee and current WSECU Board Chair, I am committed to public service. My prior professional experience managing operations including profit and loss responsibility, along with formal education in public administration, have equipped me with  practical knowledge relevant to serving WSECU and its members.

In my current role as Regional Administrator for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, I am responsible for our Fraud Prevention and Compliance, Customer Service and Workers' Compensation programs in King County.

Managing operations for a regulatory agency, I have the responsibility to ensure proper policies and procedures are in place to mitigate risks, including confidentiality, information safeguarding, protection of physical assets and reputational risk. These skills are transferrable and critical to fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities entrusted to a committed Board member.

I am committed to contributing in a meaningful way to my community and as a Board Director for WSECU. It is particularly important to me that the organizations I work for and volunteer for share my personal values of striving for excellence, caring for our community and economic empowerment. I have volunteered for organizations sharing these same values through empowering families, low-income entrepreneurs and underserved communities.

Serving on the WSECU Board is an honor and a privilege and has allowed me to leverage my professional and nonprofit service experience in supporting an organization that makes a tangible difference in people's lives by providing meaningful financial education and services.

Finally, the sense of community, professionalism, fiscal responsibility and member focus that I have experienced during my tenure as a Board member working with our team, members and Board inspire me to be a WSECU Board member and continue a legacy of service to our communities.

Michaela Doelman

Michaela Doelman, Candidate

State Chief Human Resources Officer
State of Washington
Olympia, WA

I believe the combination of my professional and lived experience are what help make me uniquely qualified for a Board position. I’ve worked for Washington state government for 17+ years in several leadership positions where I’ve overseen large and complex budgets, enterprise risk management, strategic planning and people leadership. I’ve built an understanding of what financial health means in a way that balances the responsibility of being a steward of taxpayer dollars but also how to strategically invest to build long-term and financially sustainable programs. I also have a master's degree in public administration and a postgraduate certification from the Leadership Tomorrow program that have taught me how to effectively collaborate across boundaries to achieve shared outcomes.

As a first-generation American, I know firsthand that many in our community aren’t raised with inherent knowledge of how to navigate systems, including financial literacy. I also know that the quickest way to generational wealth is through home ownership and managing debt. WSECU has helped me to purchase a home, build a financial wellness plan for retirement, and set my kids up with their first savings accounts. It has been an integral part of helping me build generational wealth for my family. And, with my lived experience, I see opportunities where WSECU could be more accessible to people from historically marginalized communities. Opportunities to broaden outreach to people who may not yet have a credit score, to help build trust for folks who historically have not wanted to hold a bank account, and rebuild trust with folks who have seen what Big Banking can do when it’s focused on profits for shareholders instead of members. I want to be a Board member both to give back to the institution that has helped me and to use my voice to help ensure it can broaden who it serves in the future.

Sierra Foster

Sierra Foster, Associate Board Member

Chief Operating Officer
Astria Health
Zillah, WA

Currently, I am the Assistant Administrator at Astria Sunnyside Hospital in Sunnyside, Washington. I have been committed to working with this organization for 8 years. During that time, I have assisted in leading the organization through an acquisition, an electronic medical record conversion, a successful emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the COVID-19 Pandemic and critical supply shortages, along with managing the day-to-day operations of a Critical Access Hospital. Additionally, I am on the WSECU Board as an Associate Board Member. This has given me the opportunity to become familiar with the structure and obligations of the role of the Board member. I feel that since April of 2024, I have learned a tremendous amount that could contribute to the Board of Directors and would be grateful for the consideration. Though I am not from a financial background and have little experience in credit union management (except from the consumer perspective), I believe I can complement the current Board of Directors by providing the team with an outside, energetic, youthful perspective. My strengths are rooted in my higher education and rapid exposure to executive leadership from the healthcare sector that aligns due to the nature of highly regulated nonprofits.

I am passionate about being involved in my community and working to better serve those who are underserved. Being from a rural community, I also tend to focus on opportunities to advocate for rural areas of Washington state. I have been living in Eastern Washington for 13 years, currently in Zillah. I believe being on the WSECU Board, I can help ensure voices of members from the more rural parts of Washington can be represented.

Volunteer Experience and/or Education

  • Associate Board Member for WSECU (Board Shadow Program)
  • Master’s degree in Health Policy and Administration from WSU
  • President of Sunnyside Rotary
  • Fellow of the American College of Health Executives

Stacia Hollar

Stacia Hollar, Board Member

Senior Assistant Attorney General
Attorney General’s Office (Retired)
Washougal, WA

Thank you for electing me to the Board three years ago. During my term, I increased my understanding of WSECU and credit unions and am now even more prepared to serve you. I request you return me to the Board so I may continue to use my professional training in the financial industry along with my experience on the Board to further our mission. With the steep learning curve behind me, I am ready to continue WSECU’s journey of service, security and innovation.

Throughout my public sector legal career, I advised on issues regarding financial institution regulation, data security investment and auditing requirements. I learned the crucial role financial institutions play in their communities. I am knowledgeable about the laws and regulations governing credit unions. This background provides me with a solid understanding of the regulatory environment in which WSECU operates. At the Attorney General's Office, I managed a staff of fifty including budget, human resources, and strategic planning and implementation matters. I have lived in Spokane, Olympia and Clark County, and will continue to stand for the interests of our members throughout the state.

Access to financial services is crucial to the success of individuals, families and small businesses. WSECU, as a grassroots financial institution, plays a vital role in ensuring that these services are available in an equitable manner to all who qualify. During my term I have learned both WSECU’s current work and the ongoing needs of our communities. I want to be an active participant in ongoing efforts to better serve small businesses, provide inner-city and rural housing, and reach others who may face barriers accessing financial services. We must provide financial education for our youth and information and innovative tools for our seniors as they move to consolidate, protect and transfer their resources. As a Board member I have learned to evaluate new financial products and opportunities, and I am energized by how WSECU can provide individualized assistance to customers in this evolving environment. I want to put the experience of the past three years back to work for you.

Doug Mah, Board Member

Owner and Principal Consultant

We expect Board members to have unique combinations of leadership skills and experiences to sustain and grow the credit union. Board members must work well with management to understand emerging challenges and set a clear strategic direction to successfully meet the evolving needs of members, communities, employees, and the organization. I bring these unique personal and professional skills and experiences to meet your expectations as a WSECU Board member.

It is my honor to serve on the WSECU Board of Directors for 13 years. I've held officer positions on the Board, including three terms as Board Chair, and served on Board committees, such as Asset Liability Management and Governance, to ensure sound business practices are followed, members are protected, and service is improved. I am pleased that WSECU is consistently ranked one of the best financial institutions in Washington state by consumers.

I am well suited to continue representing you on the WSECU Board. I enjoyed a 24-year career in State government in the fields of information technology, policy, research and budget. I served for 10 years on the Olympia City Council, including four years as Mayor. I left State service in 2012 to start my consulting business. As a current small business owner with public sector experience, I bring analytical, strategic, leadership and community insights to the WSECU Board to address today's financial challenges, foster innovative services and be a relevant community partner.

Credit unions are an important alternative to big banks for consumers. It is vital that we grow member-owned financial cooperatives, like WSECU, that place members ahead of stockholders, customer service ahead of profits, reflect the shared values of their members, and help people reach their financial goals. I want to continue representing you and putting these practices into action so that WSECU members benefit from exceptional service, competitive rates, fewer fees, better financial technology, and together, build stronger and more equitable communities across our State.

For almost 35 years my family has counted on WSECU for safe, secure, reliable and friendly personal and business banking services. I am proud to be a credit union member and of WSECU's heritage for serving public employees. I appreciate your continued support to serve as a member of the Board of Directors.

Consuelo Norris

Consuelo Norris, Associate Board Member

Director of Data and Evaluation
Child Care Aware Washington
Puyallup, WA

I bring over 12 years of experience in leading teams and building partnerships with community organizations and public officials. My career has involved co-developing programs and projects that serve diverse populations, with a strong focus on leveraging data to identify needs, inform decision-making, and elevate the needs of underserved communities.

In addition, I have worked extensively with public and private networks to achieve outcomes through systems improvements, evidence-based analyses, and the establishment of benchmarks, milestones and necessary course corrections. This approach has helped foster trust, accountability, resilience and sustainability in the initiatives I’ve led. These skills and experiences position me to be an asset to the WSECU Board, as I can help inform strategies for growth and sustainability that benefit the communities and members we serve.

I have been a member of WSECU since I arrived in Washington in 2024, and I’m deeply committed to serving my community. My interest in joining the WSECU Board stems from a shared goal: making financial services more accessible and supportive to members, empowering them at every stage of life.

Throughout my years of service in the nonprofit and public sectors, I’ve gained valuable insight into the challenges people face — financial strain being one of the most pressing. Financial hardship not only impacts emotional well-being but also affects health and personal relationships. I want to contribute to the Board’s work by providing diverse perspectives, advocating for the needs of the community, and supporting the development of services that meet members’ evolving needs.

Ultimately, strong governance requires the engagement of community members who understand and reflect the values of the people we serve. I am excited about the opportunity to lend my skills and experiences to WSECU’s ongoing growth and success.

Senior Accountant

I believe that my background and experience in finance/accounting/auditing, personal and professional development/growth, and Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in Leadership creates a strong foundation of integrity, transparency, collaboration, and professionalism. With my financial/business experience of 20+ years, it will help me understand the needs and operational function of an organization, and have the objectivity for independent judgment, and understanding conflict of interests. Furthermore, my leadership and ethical skills/values and EQ knowledge will also help me to have the critical thinking and analytical skills needed for this position, in addition to the outstanding communication and organizational skills I have developed along the way. I will make sure our records/assets are safeguarded in extreme confidentiality and maintained properly, honestly and accurately. It will be an honor and a privilege to uniquely be qualified to be the effective elected Supervisory Committee member for WSECU.

A problem was identified in our community and action was taken. Ed Montermini was able to make his $500 down payment for his home in Olympia. That was back in the 1950's but WSECU did it again two years ago ... with me. Not to lend me money but to save me from a fraudulent situation. The commitment and appropriate internal controls in place to mitigate risk and the real value that is added to all members are exceptional, and I want to be part of that. I am passionate about being part of an organization that makes a real difference in our community, and that is fully committed, involved and supportive in so many ways. Value all people and bring the community together in a world that divides, that is High Road Leadership, and that is who I am.

Jillian Nordstrom

Jillian Nordstrom, Candidate

Grants & Community Partnerships Unit Manager
Department of Transportation
Olympia, WA

I would be honored to serve as a Supervisory Committee member and give back to the credit union that helped my family’s financial well-being. My experience with WSECU has been exceptional, going above and beyond in providing day-to-day banking and helping my parents through a complicated loan process. This dedication to helping us navigate a stressful situation left a lasting impression on me.

Credit unions aren’t just banks, they are a critical part of our communities, focused on members rather than profit. This focus gives WSECU the ability to foster financial stability, promote responsible lending, and provide personalized services. I see the critical role that WSECU plays in empowering members to achieve their financial goals, and I want to contribute to ensuring that this continues to thrive.

As a Supervisory Committee member, my goal would be to help maintain WSECU’s strong financial health and integrity, so that it can continue to provide exceptional service for years to come. Oversight, transparency and accountability are important in ensuring that our credit union remains financially stable, compliant with regulations, and able to navigate the challenges of the future. It’s important to me that WSECU remains a trusted and reliable resource for all its members, just as it has been for my family.

I have a background in regulation, compliance and risk management, having worked for the state for over 25 years. My career has primarily been focused on working with communities and service providers to help them meet their needs through grants and loans while ensuring those funds are used properly. I have had the opportunity to live and work all over the state of Washington, in both small towns and major cities. This has given me a unique perspective and understanding of the needs and challenges of both rural communities and metropolitan areas.

I’ve managed large grant and loan portfolios and currently administer grant making and operating compliance for public transportation throughout the state. Managing programs has given me experience in complex financial oversight, budget development, contract negotiation, facilitation, and collaboration. Additionally, it has helped me to learn the complexities of federal regulation and how to ensure programs are working within those parameters. I enjoy learning and working with people to find creative solutions to hard problems, all of which would help me be an effective team member of the Supervisory Committee.
