Dispute errors
Your credit report contains information that’s used to evaluate your creditworthiness on everything from credit cards to auto loans, mortgages to jobs.
It’s important to review your credit report regularly to make sure the data is accurate. You can get a free copy at Annual Credit Report.com once a year. If you notice any inquiry errors, or errors on your WSECU loans or credit cards, dispute them with the credit bureaus or with us directly.
Start a credit report dispute with WSECU
To dispute errors on your report, you can fill out a credit dispute form or submit the following information in writing:
- Your name, SSN, DOB, phone number and address
- The account in dispute
- Your account number
- The date of the error
- The specific error
- A statement explaining the dispute
Be sure to include any supporting information with your dispute.
If your dispute is due to fraud, in addition to the completed dispute form, please include a copy of your state-issued identification, a full copy of your Federal Trade Commission Identity Theft Report, and a full copy of your police report to open your claim. Report and case numbers aren’t enough.
After we receive your dispute form or letter, you will receive a response by mail within 30 days.
Start a hard inquiry dispute with WSECU
A hard inquiry is a request to check your credit. It’s triggered when you complete a credit application and becomes part of your credit report, meaning anyone who checks your report will see it. Because it tells other lenders that you have applied for new credit, they may view multiple recent inquiries on your report as a sign that you may be overextended. Be sure to review this section to ensure all inquiries are valid. A hard inquiry stays on your report for about two years.
